Small things we can offer to others to improve their lives. Even if it’s just a smile … it helps!

Being Kind to the Planet

Being Kind to the Planet

Happy Autumn Equinox … And now that it’s Autumn, how about taking a moment to pick up some discarded beverage bottles, cans or other garbage that’s lying on the ground. Throw it in the recycling bin! In so doing, you’re being kind to yourself, friends, family and neighbours, as well as to the planet!

Hear What I Say

Hear What I Say

Listen. Don’t interrupt. People don’t always want us to suggest a solution. They sometimes just want us to listen. We underestimate how important and comforting it is to be listened to.

Taking the Time to Be A Friend

Taking the Time to Be A Friend

Someone once said that “A friend is one to whom you can pour out the contents of your heart, chaff and grain alike. Knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.” Whether it’s something you receive from, or in fact give to a friend, a family member, it is indeed a treasure! Pssst … pass it on.

Enjoy a Healthy Snack

Enjoy a Healthy Snack

Summer is a time when we’re out and about — going for a walk, canoeing, or biking. Alongside our water, which is always good to have on hand, it’s nice to have something to eat. But instead of chips or even a granola bar, how about eating a healthier snack of vegetables or fruit? It’s just a way that we can be kind to our bodies as we enjoy all the countless activities during the summer season.

Being a Friend

Being a Friend

Every now and then, we pause and think about one or two of our friends whom we haven’t seen for a while. Well, how about getting in touch with them …? Talk with them on the telephone or meet them for a cup of tea … it’s a Random Act of Kindness that you can both enjoy together!

Set aside your phone

Set aside your phone

These days, time is the greatest gift we can give to others. If you’re usually on the phone a lot, take a break from this habit. Take time to engage in a meaningful face-to-face conversation with a friend or family member.

The Richness of Friendship

The Richness of Friendship

Someone once said that “A friend is one to whom you can pour out the contents of your heart, chaff and grain alike. Knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.” Whether it’s something you receive from or in fact give to a friend or a family member, it is indeed a rich treasure!

Pass it On

Pass it On

Here’s a thought a Rev. Henry Burton noted … He asks, “Have you had kindness shown? Pass it on; ‘Twas not given for thee alone, Pass it on; Let it travel down the years, Let it wipe another’s tears. Pass it on.” So, that single act of kindness we give to another person never really stops. For all time, it will continue to bring a warm feeling of comfort and perhaps a smile to those who might just need it!

Being a Part of Nature

Being a Part of Nature

Summer is only weeks away and flowers are blooming and the birds are building their nests. So, why not enjoy nature and plant a flower … or a garden of them! It’s a simple act of kindness to yourself, your family, friends, as well as the community, as a whole. And let’s not forget, it’s also an act of kindness to the butterflies, birds and bees who flutter and whir through your back yard.

The Simplicity of Kindness

The Simplicity of Kindness

Here’s a small reminder from the Dalai Lama we can try to remember. He explained how, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” His words show not only how simple it can be to share kindness with others. But they also remind us of how important those kind words and deeds can be.
